Canadian Motorcycle Heritage Museum Road Show visits SUPERSHOW 2004 |
| The Canadian Motorcycle Heritage Museums latest Traveling Road Show display was the extensive booth at the 2004 Toronto International Motorcycle SUPERSHOW, January 2/3/4 at the Toronto International Centre. | |
| This year's theme consisted of a "Tribute to Kurt Boeckemann', the noted NSU specialist from Lakefield Ontario. Kurt's restoration work has been his passion for many many years and is absolutely first rate. The Museum arranged to feature a total of 8 of Kurt's restored NSU's to be brought together for the display; some from the collection of Museum Chairman Bar Hodgson, a couple from Kurt's own collection, as well as 3 from the collection of Museum director Ed Vaillancourt. Ed has been a proponent of Kurt's work for many years, owning some 15 of these top quality German bikes himself. |
| Kurt was a special guest of the Museum booth Saturday, on hand to talk to interested attendee's, spending most of the day thoroughly enjoying himself talking to people about his passion. Kurt was also presented with a prestigious MAX Award for 'Showing excellence in the field of Motorcycle Restoration' and was the focus of a feature story in the SUPERSHOW 2004 issue of International Motorcycle Magazine. | |
| At the other end of the 2,400 square foot booth once again was Max Burns and Michelle Duff, each having a great time spending the weekend talking to the public, and signing autographed copies of their books. Max also received a MAX Award for his latest book, 'Around The Bend (again)'. | |

| Also in this years display the Museum was pleased have the loan of 4 outstanding machines: The 1907 Rene' Gillet and 1917 Indian Model O, both owned by current CVMG (Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group) President Cliff Zimmerman. These bikes were real eye-catching crowd pleasers. The un-restored V-Twin Rene' Gillet is so rare that they're even hard to find mentioned in most vintage 'encyclopedias'! And the Indian Model O is the rare 'in-line opposed twin' that was only produced for a few years. It has been immaculately restored and apparently can be running with minimal work. | |
| Next was the stunning 1999 BMW R1000SS 'Special' originally designed and built by noted customizer Cliff Randall. This highly modified machine was loaned to the Museum by long-time Museum volunteer Rob Caldwell of Oshawa Ontario. |
|
| The fourth bike loaned to the museum was the beautiful 1954 Victoria 'Bergmeister' restored by Doug Teague. A 350cc transverse V-twin (like a Moto-Guzzi) with a unique multiple chain driven transmission. Doug painstakingly restored to near perfection this rare German machine over the course of many years. This fabulous machine is now a welcome addition to the Museum collection and we are looking forward to showing it again soon. | |
| Other bikes on hand this year were; 1963 Suzuki T-10 250cc twin, 1989 Honda GB500 single, the rare 'Superbike platform' 1989 Suzuki GSXR-R 750, 1960 Norton Vintage Road-Racer, 1955 Jawa OHC 500cc twin, Ducati 350 Sebring single, 1959 Triumph Bonneville, 1966 Honda 305 Dream and the Harley Davidson XLCR/XR1000 'Iron Works Special' that was also featured in the SUPERSHOW 2004 issue of International Motorcycle Magazine. | |
| |
| The Museum also loaned several bikes out to various SUPERSHOW Clubs and exhibitors. These were; the excellent condition 1960 MV Augusta 150cc single to the Great Pine Ridge Section of the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group, the very nice 1966 Honda 160 Dream to the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club, the as-raced 1991 Fast By Feracci World Superbike Ducati to the Vintage Road Racing Association, and the perfectly restored Ducati 'Mille' Battle of The Twins bike that was ridden by the legendary, late Jimmy Adamo to the Ducati Owners Club of Canada. | |
As usual, we could not put on such an elaborate display of fine motorcycles were it not for the help of the Museums corporate sponsors and our dedicated volunteer staff. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank them all very much.

Also, Museum Chairman Bar Hodgson is planning on visiting the new Barber Motorcycle Museum in Alabama soon, and will be relating his experience in the Spring Motorcycle Show issue of International Motorcycle Magazine. | |
