Port Dover Friday the 13th
Friday May 13th, 2005
With only one Friday the 13th in all of 2005, May 13 brought thousands of riders and spectators to Port Dover, Ontario, rain forecast and all. The rain held off until after 5pm so it was a great day to spend walking up Main Street and down to the waterfront. And it really took all day to get through the crowds, check out the vendors and bikes, and do some people watching.
The motorcycles roll in from all directions to converge on the small lakeside town of Port Dover. If you weren't on a bike you had to park about 6 miles outside of town and take the bus in.
Looking up at Main Street all you could see was a sea of people.
The constant rumble of motorcycles reminded us of the sounds of Daytona. Bikes were lining every street and were parked on lawns all through town.
Friday the 13th is a Port Dover phenomenon. You have to be comfortable with crowds but there’s a great feeling of camaraderie among all the motorcyclists. Despite what was shown on the news that night, bike gangs have very little to do with what the event is all about.
