SUPERSHOW Racing Team member Ken Livingstone made the long journey to Shubenacadie Nova Scotia to participate in the 11th annual Atlantic TT at Atlantic Motorsports Park. This race was the second of five rounds of the National Vintage Road-Racing Series run by the Vintage Road Racing Association. While still recovering from an early season injury, Ken entered the Teams Ducati 851 in the new Period Four, Formula One race at the track affectionately referred to as ‘the Roller Coaster’. Not being able to get there in time for the Friday practice, Ken started off his weekend the Saturday morning. After only two laps the big Ducati died and coasted to a stop just at the pit entrance (luckily). A quick check found that the bumpy track had caused the connecter at the fuel pump relay to slip off. No problem, one zip-tie later, it was back in action for the next round of practice. Ken has raced at this track three previous times, and soon got re-accustomed to the layout. In the Saturday afternoon heat race, Ken was gridded on the front row and all set for a tough battle on this busy, bumpy track, when just before the start he happened to glance down at the bike and noticed a nasty looking ‘bulge’ starting to form in the upper rad hose. At the start, he jumped out in front immediately, but glanced down at the hose when he could, and noticed the bulge was getting bigger. Blowing the rad hose would not have been a good thing to tempt, so Ken decided to pull out of the race to be safe. A quick run into Canadian Tire in nearby Truro by Team supporter Steve Palmer brought a suitable replacement fix for the weekend and the bike was ready to go again that night. | |||

In the Sunday final, Ken was relegated to a second row starting position due to the heat race failure, but the bike worked perfectly and he soon made his way to the front. In the end, he cruised home, comfortably winning the class. The Atlantic TT is a fun event, drawing a large number of spectators who camp out for three or four days, enjoying the racing and the relaxed atmosphere. There is also a vintage bike show, used parts vendors, charity parade laps and more. Of course there are lots of other things to see and do in the Maritimes as well. It makes for a nice holiday stop in the summer. Plus of course, fresh Lobster! The next stop for Ken is the Grand Prix of Quebec at L’Autodrome St. Eustache just north of Montreal, July 24/25.
