Rider: Peter DerryAge: 42Bike: 2001 Yamaha YZ250F Class: Plus 40 ('geezers') Competition #: 76 Sponsor: International Motorcycle SUPERSHOW Experience: 3rd year of MX competition Series competed in: Oshawa Competition Motorcycle Club (OCMC), Canadian Motorsport Racing Club (CMRC) Canadian Motocross (CMX) Career Highlights: 3rd place overall in OCMC series Plus 40 Class Strengths: Starts, Braking, eating and sleeping Weakness: Jumping and getting up early on Raceday Goals: To be able to do BIG doubles!! Coolest Move: 'Tailwhip' (by accident) Most embarrassing Move: "Hmmmm. . . that's a close one. Either my first MX Moto ever at Gopher Dunes or when I was trying to break in my new boots and I accidentally downshifted a gear as I was setting up to launch off a double. I ended up crashing into the face of the second jump right in front of all the spectators. I could even hear the crowd ooooohhs as it all happened. Worst of all, it looked like I chickened out at the last minute". Worst part about MX racing: "Being roosted by a 450. . . they're earthmovers those things . . . you'll even find dirt in your Sponge Bob Square Pants Boxer shorts after that!" Favorite Track: "Any track in the mud because that keeps my competitors on the ground. But I like RJ's in Barrie. It's forcing me to learn to jump and it's got a lot of elevation changes"

Rider: Ryan DerryAge: 11Bike: 2004 KTM 85SX "Sweet Ride" Class: '7-11 85 cc' in CMRC & CMX and 'Youth A' in the OCMC Competition #: 76 Sponsor: International Motorcycle SUPERSHOW Experience: 7 years riding and 6 years of MX competition Series competed in: Oshawa Competition Motorcycle Club (OCMC), Canadian Motorsport Racing Club (CMRC) Canadian Motocross (CMX)
Career Highlights: 2000 OCMC Pee Wee A 50cc Class Champion 2001 OCMC OCMC Youth C 65cc 9tth Overall
2002 OCMC Youth B 65cc 8th Place Overall
2003 OCMC Youth B Pro 65cc Class Champion Ryan has competed in numerous CMRC, CMX and LDR series races usually placing in the top riders of his class. Strengths: Cornering, Berms, Rhythm sections and Whoops. Weakness:" Worrying about not waking up early on Raceday, Candy and Pop" Goals: "Next year I want to race the CMX series and the CMRC series enough to qualify for Walton; but ultimately, I want to compete in the Pro ranks to WIN" Coolest Move: "Tailwhips, passing my Dad, winning motos, racing in the Sky Dome, riding a Honda NS250F at the SUPERSHOW Mosport Track days." Most embarrassing Move: "Looping out on the start of some of my first 65cc races" Worst part about MX racing: "Sand in my goggles . . . sand in my hotdog and crashing in the mud" Favorite Track: "For MX I would have to say the Parry Sound Track is up there, I went to Lino Zecca's Moto Camp there. That was awesome, and at the end of the week we had a final Moto and I won. But for Road Race Tracks, I like Mosport Rider Development Track because my Dad let me ride in the Street Class and he and I were passing everyone! I also like Mosport's big road course because it's fast and that is when I got that NS250F topped out!"

Ryan exiting the berm turn at Motopark. "You need a good drive out of here because there is a very scary blind double jump just after it and you need some speed to clear it", Ryan exclaims. It actually looks like your headed for an impossible launch into oblivion - it's famous and it separates the men from the boys. August 2004

Ryan, suited up and ready to ride during the lunch hour of one of our track days, fell asleep while waiting during a long delay. Unfortunately he never got to ride that day. One day a kid from the Supermoto series came out to do one of our track days, he ran in the Street class. It was then that I decided Ryan had enough laps and was competent enough to ride the Street class too. I rode with him and we were turning laps faster than the other riders.

This is Ryan on the front straight of Mosport’s big road race circuit. After seizing the YSR 50 we got him for our track days, Ryan graduated to a NSR 250. He couldn't touch the ground and once he tipped over in the pits, I think he was a little embarrassed. But, we picked him up and off he went. His comment after his first ride on it: "Dad, wow . . . this bike really goes" Ryan was 10 at the time. July 2003 | |
