Canadian Motorcycle Heritage Museum

The large Museum display, centered perfectly within the main industry hall, was the site of two important receptions.

Friday, Joe Rocket held a reception to celebrate a prosperous year and the launch of the 2001 season. Invited were Joe Rockets Racers, Eddie Lawson, Nicky & Tommy Hayden, and Motorcycle Dealers and many guests from the motorcycle industry, who mingled among the 24 beautiful bikes in the display.

Racers included Michael Taylor, Francis Martin, Jordon Szoke, Steve Crevier and Marco Dube as well as international racing stars Doug Polen and Michelle Duff.

Saturday, the Museum hosted the 22nd Annual Motorcycle Awards of Excellence (MAX Awards), reception. The recipients of Canada's Motorcycle Oscars gathered to enjoy refreshments and take in the vintage bikes in the museum.

  • Left: 1984 Suzuki RG 500. 500cc square four 2 stroke factory grand-prix bike. 115 hp, 275 lb. This particular bike was campaigned by British rider Trevor Nation. It was on this bike in 1986 that he set the lap record of 116 mph while leading the Isle of Man Senior TT, only to run out of gas near the end of the last lap.
  • Centre: 1991 Ducati 888/955 Superbike. Full World Superbike specification factory racer. The same as Doug Polen's championship bike. This bike was raced by Polen's team mate Gian Carlo Falappa in 1991, then by Canadian Pascal Picotte in the AMA for 1992 and 1993. Last raced by Jeff Sneyd in the Canadian National Superbike series where he won at Mosport in 1995.
  • Right: 1988 Aprilia 250 AFI. Factory grand-prix bike, ridden by Canadian Champion Steve Crevier to successive Canadian National 250cc Class Championships in 1989 and 1990.

Bikes on display included Trevor Nations Isle of Man 1985 Suzuki RG500 Grand Prix machine, Doug Ratcliffe's 1969 Triumph dragster and several #1 plate holding bikes.
