The Durham Cruisers are a family-oriented group of motorcycle enthusiasts that are based in and around the Durham Region in Ontario. There are members from Toronto, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Bowmanville and surrounding areas. Still a relatively 'new' club, it boasts over 55 very enthusiastic members already. They are a not-for-profit organization trying to promote a positive image for all motorcyclists. There are no secret handshakes, no silly rules, just a non-political group of riders that want to enjoy themselves. Nothing is mandatory except the rules of the road and common courtesy. They ask that people that ride with them act responsibly, leave their 'attitudes' at home, and enjoy a genuine friendship with their fellow club members.
The Club was founded in 2001 by; Bob 'Bulldog' Chambers, Karen 'K.C' Chambers, George 'Taz' Mathews, Chris 'Poohbare' Barrett, Steve 'Rags' Hartley, Mike 'Micky D' McDonald, Kim 'Flash' Burns and Alex 'Uncle Al' Chasczewski. Current club President is Bob 'Bulldog' Chambers.
Each year the club supports the Big Brothers and Sisters of Clarington Township. This includes the clubs annual Poker run that occurs on the first Saturday in August. Regular meetings are held the second Saturday of each month in Ajax.
In January 2004, the Club participated in their first SUPERSHOW. Their enthusiasm and dedication to having fun showed immediately. Not satisfied to just set-up a small, first effort 'trial' booth, their display was one of the largest 'club' booths, covering over 1,600 square feet, and was one of the best ever built for the SUPERSHOW. The amount of time, materials and energy that they put into the display was well worth the effort, as they accomplished something that has never been done before in the SUPERSHOW; In their first attempt, they won first place in the Club Display competition, and received the annual Trophy and first place money from Show Producer himself, Bar Hodgson!
That type of enthusiasm and effort that they put forth all year round was influential with the Club also picking up a MAX Award for 'Showing Excellence as a Regional Motorcycle Club'. This award was presented to Club President 'Bulldog' Chambers on stage at the SUPERSHOW as well.
